The Train Ride

We were all riding along on the train.  We were talking about what we had done over the Holidays and what the New Year would hold for us and all of a sudden there appeared out the window........

And then the Monster got up and this sound came out of it's mouth.  It was the worst sound I'd ever heard.  It was high pitched and loud and sounded so awful!  We all clutched each other and said silent prayers, begging our Gods to stop the noise.

The Monsters seemed to be almost dancing with the train.  Darting back and forth over the tracks.  We all closed our eyes and hoped we would all live to see another day.

The Advent Calendar Meets Mabel

It used to be a dove - a dove of peace.

And then.........

Happy Halloween

Mabel had a great time trick-or-treating yesterday.  There were many dogs out and she got to howl her little heart out.  She also got her own treat at one house when they gave her a home-made dog biscuit.  :-)  (It was a house that she visits most every time she runs away)  :-)

She's a Flower

Mabel has been wheezing.  I have been trying to capture this melodious sound for a couple days but haven't been able to.  She sounds a little like a hoarse seal that barks with air going in and out.   I looked this up on the Internet and come to find out - Mabel has "delicate airways" and something has irritated them.   She's a delicate little flower, this one.

Mabel Does Windows

Either she's snotting them up or breaking blinds as she tries to see what's going on.  Mabel needs to get a job so she can begin paying for some of the destruction she leaves in her path.

Took Mabel to the vet to get shot today.  Ughhh - what a workout.  There was a line of dogs and a cat waiting to get shot and of course Mabel cannot just stand and wait - nooooo she has to howl.  One of the dogs (Buttercup) was NOT too happy with Mabes and tried to nip at her.  *I* think it was because of the "soothing tones" of her howl and whine.   :-)   Sally expressed to Mabel that if she did NOT stop we would not buy her anything from the store.   :-)

While in line Mabel was all over the dog food in the isle.  I tried to explain that it was the GOOD stuff and her Mommy did not love her near enough to give her that.  :-)  (The lady in front of us almost bust a gut on that comment).

Rockhead Mabel didn't even flinch when they shot her - either time.  She was so concerned about getting down and going to sniff.  She also didn't sneeze out the bordetella drops that the vet said they all do.  While writing out my check Mabel started to cry and the gentleman at the table explained that was because the Rabies shot was stinging.  When I explained that no, that was Mabel he peered over the table and said
"Oh, yeah, Beagle - you're right".  Where was he when Bill picked this *lovely* breed.  :-)

So now she sleeps.  All exhausted from all the smells and shots and general merriment that goes along with an outing with Mabel.

Handwriting

Mabel gets SO upset when she practices her cursive.

Presents

I found this on my chair this morning.  3 gueses what's inside.  ;-)

Psychological Problems

I listened to Stephanie Miller's radio show on Friday and they had Cesar Millan (the dog whisperer) on.  He said that America has the world's largest population of dogs with psychological problems.  I ask you - does this look like the face of a psycho???  :-)

I Just Wanted In.....

When I came in from being out front of the house, Mabel was sitting by my desk with her chain still on.  I thought to myself "Hmmm, I don't remember leaving the sliding door open for her to come in."

Imagine my surprise when I moved the curtain and found the bottom half of the screen door torn off.

As I was outside taking these pictures, Mabel nicely posed.  :-)

Make the Bed Around Me

Mabel is a blankey baby.  Meaning that unless it's really hot - and I mean out of the 70s (she's like certain California girls I know)   she likes to be under the blanket.  Lately, she's been under the quilt on our bed all night.  It makes it very interesting when you make the bed in the morning.

Mabel is also a late sleeper.  The house is all up by 6:30 am at the latest - but Mabel likes to lounge in bed till around 8 or so.  So when I make the bed in the morning there is always a lump at the foot of the bed under the quilt.

Sally goes in aroun 7:45 usually and gives Mabes heck about being a lazy bones and that she needs to get up and get going.  :-)  Usually Mabel will get up, stretch and then join Jack on the couch and sneak under his blanket.  Mabes has a very rough life.  :-)

Mabel is Released From Jail

This is Mabel.

She recently went to Doggie Jail (Animal Control).  They picked her up Friday morning and since they don't have staff there on the weekend - we didn't get her till this morning (Monday).   As we pulled up you could hear her howling.

The other dogs looked very relieved as she was let out of her cage and given to us.  I swear, if they could, they would have clapped.  We were told that she howls even more when she's in the cage.

The exact words of the kindly, elderly, Animal Control Officer was "She sure is a little stinker."   Oh, the stories we could tell.

So that's what I guess this blog is for:  Mabel stories.
